How To Correct CIBIL Report Mistakes

Lenders and credit card issuers report your repayment details to CIBIL. Normally, they update your information on a monthly basis or after every three months. It is not an automatic system but banks need to enter the correct data to the system to update the report. Now there can be human errors anytime.


Types of Mistakes

Inaccurate Current Balance or Amount Overdue

On purchasing your CIBIL report, you may notice that your 'Current Balance' or 'Amount Overdue' may not be updated for your most recent payment. This is usually the case if you have purchased your CIBIL report within 45 days of making a payment.


Credit institutions generally submit the data concerning last payment of dues/ EMI within 45 days, so the latest payment may not reflect on your CIBIL report until the data is submitted by that lender.


Incorrect Personal Details

Ensure that you have provided accurate and updated details to your Credit Institution at the time of your loan application. In addition, every time your personal details change or are updated you should inform your bank or financial institution so that they are able to make the necessary changes to their database.


Ownership

If any personal details or one or more of the accounts on your Credit Information Report do not belong to you, you should initiate the Dispute Resolution Process.


Steps to Correct the Mistakes

If you have find out an inaccuracy in your CIBIL report then you need to raise a dispute in CIBIL for that you have two option.


  1. Raise a dispute online
  2. Raise a dispute offline

Raise a dispute online
  1. Download your latest CIBIL report by clicking on Get Your CIBIL credit report Given at top right corner. After clicking on the button you need to create your account with CIBIL only then you can download your latest CIBIL report and if you already have an account then you can login into your account.
  2. Visit CIBIL account login page and enter your Login credentials then click on "Enter" button.
  3. Visit Dispute Center Page.
  4. Click on "Dispute An Item" button.
  5. Select your information that you want to update.
    • If you want to update your personal details then you need to click on "Personal Information", then enter your updated details.
    • If you want to update your contact information then you need to click on "Contact Information" button.
    • If you want to update your employment details then you can click on "Employment Information" and then enter your employment details.
    • To initiate a dispute for Account does not belong to you OR Account is reflecting multiple times then click on the "< " symbol it will open your account information.
      Select the checkbox corresponding to the relevant account. If you want to change any of the information you need to just need to enter the right information to the relevant box.
    • In the "Enquiry Information" you will get the list of lenders that have checked your CIBIL report at the time of receiving your application for the loan if you found a bank that you have never approach for loan then you can mark tick on "Box" in front of the name of the bank.
  6. After Updating your relevant query. click on "Submit Dispute" button.
  7. You need to click again on "Submit Dispute" button.
  8. Your dispute is submitted successfully and a dispute number will be given to you, you need to note down the dispute number.

Alternatively, you can raise a Dispute Request by writing to the following address :

CIBIL Dispute Resolution Process
  • Once you submit the Online Dispute Form, the fields disputed will be labeled 'Under Dispute'.
  • CIBIL will take this up for discussion with lenders based on the type of dispute.
  • The lender may or may not accept the dispute.
  • If the lender accepts the dispute, changes are made accordingly.
  • The label 'Under Dispute' will be removed from the disputed fields.
  • It may take approximately 30 days to resolve a dispute, subject to the time taken by the Credit Institution to respond.

Note:-You will receive an automated email notification regarding the status of your dispute every 7 days.
